8 Hindi Movies That Are Inspired By Books

Literary movies thrive in Bollywood. Indian authors’ novels, such as Devdas (2002), have been effectively adapted into an excellent film. The movie has not only enchanted readers but have also assisted non-readers in entering the realm of literature without even realizing it! However, there are a number of well-known Hindi movies that are based on the works of best-selling authors.

  • Raazi

Alia Bhatt plays a young Kashmiri woman who married into a Pakistani Army family in 1971, the year Bangladesh was liberated, and communicated military secrets back home in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi. The critically spy thriller is based on Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat, which is based on a true story. Alia and Vicky Kaushal’s performances were a hit with the audience.

  • Fitoor

The Great Expectations is a modern adaption of Charles Dickens’ novel. ‘Fitoor,’ directed by Abhishek Kapoor and starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, was released in 2016. The film follows Noor (Aditya) and Firdaus (Katrina) as they fall in love and overcome obstacles in their relationship. The film’s graphics, royalty, and set were all eye-catching.

  • 7 Khoon Maaf

Vishal Bhardwaj directed the film, which is based on Ruskin Bond’s short tale Susanna’s Seven Husbands. Priyanka Chopra portrays the leading lady, and she excels in her role. The majority of critics gave the film bad reviews, and it didn’t last long on the big screen. This award-winning film combines a murder investigation with passion, drama, and a journey of love.

  • Haider

The film that reintroduced Shahid Kapoor to Bollywood was based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Vishal Bhardwaj is in charge of the film’s direction. This is Bhardwaj’s third film adaptation of Shakespeare’s play. Vishal Bhardwaj beautifully depicted the hamlet narrative and present Kashmir in this film.

  • 3 Idiots

Three Idiots is based on Chetan Bhagat’s best-selling novel Five Point Someone. Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Boman Irani appear in the film. The film shattered all box office records and went on to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.

  • Lootera

The 2013 Hindi movie Lootera was directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha star. Despite the fact that it differs significantly from the original text, it was based on O’Henry’s short story The Last Leaf. Lootera was without a question, Sonakshi’s greatest performance to date. The movie leaves you with a big smile on your face.

  • Aisha

Sonam Kapoor stars in Rajshree Ojha’s rom-com, which is based on Amy Heckerling’s film Clueless (1995). Clueless, on the other hand, was based on Emma by Jane Austen. The heroine’s poor matchmaking creates a comedy of misunderstandings in both the book and the film.

  • Devdas

Devdas, both as a novel and as a film, is an interesting chapter in India’s literary history. On the big screen, Bollywood has told the same story three times. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novel ‘Devdas’ was the inspiration for all three.
