Ranbir Kapoor is among the most successful actors in the Indian film Industry. He earned a name and carved a niche for himself in the entertainment sector. Moreover, coming-of-age movies have always been Ranbir’s specialty. Almost half of his filmography is made up of tales about an erratic lost boy who is supported by his true love while being saved by his passion. But lately, he played a lot of exciting characters that proved how experimentative he has become with his roles. Here are some of the most interesting Hindi movies of the actor.
- Bramhastra Part One: Shiva
This is among the newest Hindi movies of the actor. Besides Ranbir, it starred some of the film industry’s biggest stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Nagarjuna Akkineni, among others. The story follows Shiva, an orphan with pyrokinetic abilities who learns that he is an Astra, a weapon of tremendous energy, as the movie takes its cues from Hindu mythology. He tries to stop the Brahmstra, the strongest of the Astras, from falling into the hands of evil forces with whom he has a shared past.
- Barfi
Anurag Basu’s magical film, Barfi, is still a people’s favorite. In the film, Ranbir plays a quirky and innocent character, Murphy. He is deaf and mute and takes a falling lamp test of love, which shows his broken heart as the woman he loves chooses someone else. In the later part of the story, we see Rimjhim (Priyanka Chopra), who gets bewitched by him and follows Murphy along wherever he goes. Their sweet relationship is childlike, which is a delight to watch. Ranbir might not have any dialogue in the film, but his acting in Barfi was phenomenal.
- Rockstar.
Rockstar is Imtiaz Ali’s messy and mercurial ode to the connection between art and heartbreak. In the movie, Ranbir’s feverish performance as a Delhi-based musician Janardhan Jhakar a.k.a Jordan is a complicated personality. He has the eye-of-the-cyclone vibe in terms of how he reveals the character of a rebel torn between adolescence and adulthood. He makes genius look incidental to the grief of living – a magic trick that announced Ranbir Kapoor as a talented star of Bollywood. Apart from the dramatic story, the songs in the film became quite a hit among the audience and are still relevant to date.
- Wake Up Sid
Everyone was convinced by Ranbir’s portrayal of an immature and aimless rich brat. The story of the movie centers on Siddharth Mehra, played by Ranbir, a Mumbai resident, learning to take responsibility for his actions with the aid of Aisha Bannerjee (Konkona Sen Sharma), a recent immigrant from Kolkata and aspiring writer-journalist. The film demonstrates the natural chemistry of the duo and relatable moments from Mumbaikars’ daily life. With a plot that is both realistic and relatable, it transcends the glitz and glamor of a typical Bollywood rom-com and stands out as a fresh take.
- Rocket Singh
It was different with Rocket Singh—Salesman of the Year. Both the movie and the role were the least representative of Ranbir. He first defied expectations by playing a de-glam Sikh salesman, which was the opposite of what heroes are supposed to do. But Rocket Singh stands out in Ranbir’s filmography precisely because of this. He has made better performances and films. But this dramedy stands out as the bravest, most sincere, and most relatable. Ranbir performed the role in a way that he had never done before.
